The 2nd Annual City Invitational Cup, a charity Twenty20 cricket match played in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, saw a dramatic finish with Ashes winner Simon Jones’ City Select XI taking the win with the last ball of the match. Last year’s winners, The Soldiers’ Charity XI captained by England legend Mark Ramprakash, had to concede defeat with the batting team making a last gasp four off the final bowl.
The match, played on the Artillery Garden took place as part of HAC1537 – a charitable partnership between the HAC and The Soldiers’ Charity which has raised more than £100,000 since it began in 2015.
Following the cricket, a gala dinner took place in the Prince Consort Rooms with both cricketers giving a Q&A followed by a talk by Al Hodgson, Charity Ambassador for The Soldiers’ Charity’s, who spoke about his experiences of receiving life-changing injuries and subsequent rehabilitation which has seen him since become a champion skydiver.
The City Invitational Cup marked the official two year anniversary of the HAC1537 partnership.
